A Volvo Penta MD2030, indirectly cooled diesel engine with conventional shaft drive to a 3 bladed propeller replaces the original engine. The engine was supplied as a good second-hand engine by the local Volvo Penta agents in 2018, and has been de-commissioned and not used since its installation. A large capacity alternator by Bomar was fitted to replace the original. 

 

A dripless lip seal by Volvo Penta is fitted, as is a stainless steel rope cutter by Ambassador Marine. 

 

The vessel was re-wired in 2014 and a new 22-way distribution panel installed with an inset Bep-Marine Matrix DC Meter. 

The battery installation is for two batteries and the boat will be supplied with two new lead acid batteries to replace the previous, now defunct, batteries. 

The accommodation is of the original layout, namely offering up to seven berths [in theory - if utilising the main saloon seating and table as a double berth]; in practise, there are two generously-sized berths in a traditional 'V' berth formation in the forward cabin, two generous quarter berths aft and main saloon seating that can be utilised as a generous single to port side, within the main saloon. The galley is located to starboard, forward within the main saloon. 

 

Forward Cabin: Two berths, with an infilling cushion between. Light and ventilation is provided by an aluminium framed hatch of toughened glass that is mounted on the original GRP hatch (thereby wind-catching ability from either forward, or aft) in addition to the opening portlights to the sides of the coach roof. Deep-fiddled stowage shelves to either side, with under-berth lockers beneath the head ends of the berths (the stainless steel water tank is located beneath the forward ends). A shelved, full-height locker is provided to starboard side. 

 

Heads Compartment: Located to port side, forward. A modern Jabsco marine flushing toilet replaces the original 'Lavac'. Pressurised hot and cold water is supplied to a moulded hand basin. An opening, overhead hatch has been fitted to supplement the original, opening portlight. A full-height hanging locker is fitted opposite the heads compartment, to starboard side of a 'vestibule' area. 

 

Main Saloon: The seating here is laid out to Westerly's familiar L-shaped form and primarily to port side, about a pedestal-mounted table fitted on the centreline. Stowage abounds, with closed cave lockers beneath the side decks, Further lockers closed by the seat back cushions and then the under-berth lockers too. This Longbow's originally 'Formica'-finished main bulkhead has been tastefully re-finished using stained tongue and grooved timber and the under deck lockers' doors are of solid wood, rather than the clear acrylic of most earlier boats. The galley is located to the starboard side, with another seat immediately aft providing the seating for an aft-facing and stowable chart table unit that may be mounted above the quarter berth for use. All coach roof surfaces have been re-lined, with two overhead and opening hatches fitted toward the forward end of the cabin ensuring a light and welcoming interior as well as good ventilation for the galley area. 

 

Galley: Originally formed to incorporate a moulded GRP sink, this part of the internal moulding has been faced with timber in keeping with the main bulkhead; the work surface area fitted with a 'Formica'-type laminate and a stainless steel sink provided. A replacement stainless steel cooker - with both grill and oven has been fitted. Crockery/cutlery stowage provision is beneath the side deck while generous cooking utensil stowage is found behind sliding doors beneath the sink and cooker. 

Rigged as a bermudan, masthead sloop, the original Proctor spars were replaced with a Sparcraft mast and boom - together with new standing rigging - in 2014. A Facnor roller reefing system is fitted to the for'stay. 

 

The majority of the running rigging has been led aft, to the aft end of the coachroof, where two Lewmar self-tailing winches have been fitted, together with good quality Spinlock clutches. 

 

A rod kicker supports the boom for ease of reefing and when the mainsail is not hoisted. 

 

The running rigging has been drawn from the spars, laundered and stored, but will be re-fitted - if required to be - on behalf of a new owner. 

 

SAILS 

A new set of working sails were purchased from Saunders Sails of Lymington in 2013. They are of high quality 'Dacron', with the roller reefing genoa provided with a foam luff to assist its shape when reefed and the mainsail was provided with two slab reefing points. The sails have only been used on two occasions (both in light wind and dry conditions) and have been in storage since.
