DETAILS

Southerly 105 - 1979 - Keenly priced to sell at £34,950

A nice, well cared for example of the Southerly 33 design that was almost immediately re-marketed as the Southerly 105, a spacious, very versatile and sturdy lifting keeled family cruising yacht, that later became designated as the Southerly 115.

This design was intended to take the ground easily and to be suitable for a shallow or drying mooring. The Southerly 33/105 was one of the pioneering designs that introduced the renowned range of lifting keel cruisers from Southerly. During a production run spanning 6 years, from 1978 to 1984 over 100 Southerly 33/105’s were built before the lengthened Southerly 115 model continued the theme.

The accommodation was cleverly designed around the lifting keel and delivers a light, spacious & homely feel. In addition to the well-equipped galley, the Southerly 105 has a large aft cabin, truly practical forward cabin, plenty of berths, good headroom, ample stowage and a well-sized heads compartment. Of course, a major feature of the design is a dual steering system with an interior wheel steering position in addition to the centre-cockpit’s external wheel.

“With her lifting keel, and Southerly’s acknowledged ability to ‘float on a damp lawn’ a pilothouse design offering great accommodation within its modest dimensions. The Southerly 105 offers a very flexible cruising ability for a boat of her modest size.”

This particular example has only seen three cruising ownerships; and her current owners originally based her in the Solent before bringing her to the West country and have owned ‘Navassa’ for 16 years, in which time she has become a much loved ‘stalwart of the family’ and is only now reluctantly offered for sale in order to down-size.

Her comprehensive inventory includes highlights such as: bow thruster; electric anchor windlass; synthetic teak-replacement deck sheathing around the cockpit area; recent sprayhood and full cockpit enclosure; replacement hot-air heating; re-‘gelled’ topsides gelcoat and replaced hull-side windows; behind-mast mainsail furling; wind turbine and solar panel.
